Partially Oriented Yarn (POY) Control System |
This is a system to control the production of man-made fiber in a partially oriented yarn (POY) process. The system controls all temperatures, pressures, and motor speeds. This includes extruder and Dowtherm boiler temperatures, maintaining constant pressure between the extruder and the melt pump by controlling the extruder speed, and controlling motor speeds for the melt pump, finish pumps, and additive feeder. A GE Fanuc 9030 PLC controls all functions. The GE Fuji G11 vector drives are monitored and controlled over a Modbus network. Bus bars are used to distribute power. Solid state relays are provided to switch power to the individual heater zones. A GE Fanuc Windows CE based touch screen is used to provide the operator the ability to enter set points and monitor system operation. Various levels of security are provided to limit access to maintenance functions. Eight similar systems were provided on this project. A supervisory HMI SCADA system was provided to allow access to all systems from a central location. The supervisor provides capabilities for historical data logging and trending, recipe upload and download, and report generation. All systems are UL listed.
